The biting cold and deep snow of winter are cruel to our summer-soldier dogs. They aren't built for Michigan winters. Outside activities are restricted. No chasing balls. No digging for mice. No playing in the sprinkler.
A bored Jack Russell is an unhappy Jack Russell. We have developed a few indoor activities to lessen the boredom. One activity is, 'hall hockey', where I try to kick a rubber squeaky toy past Jackie. Another activity is, 'diving for treats', where I spread a piece of plastic on the floor, empty their toy basket onto it, and salt the pile with bits of treats.
Winters get long at our house.

Don't this pair look neglected, not..........
They are having a ball.
Look at all of those toys! My dog has exactly two toys. All other toys he completely destroys. I don't know how we did it, but we managed to train our dog not to touch any of the children's toys. If I could remember how we did THAT I'd write a book about it :).
"Hall Hockey" is a favorite in our house too.
