Minutia is the singular of minutiae. I point this out because I was recently rewarded for knowing a single bit of trivia, which, by the way, is trivium.
I'm not being smug. Well, maybe a little. I did need to Google minutia and trivium. I'm stalling, well...elongating...the moment, rather than being smug.
I'm right so infrequently that I want to relish the good times.
Okay, here it is: Michele and I were leaving the local hardware when I spotted a hat that was distinctive to me. A gentleman in his sixties was wearing it. It looked like a wool baseball cap with turned up ear flaps that tied over the bill in a shoe lace knot.
I paused and dawdled a moment until we would approach the exit door at the same time, and asked him, "Is that a Stormy Kromer?"
He looked at me with bemused courtesy, and I continued, "Your hat...is it a Stormy Kromer?"
"Oh," he replied, "I just bought this because my head was cold! It has something written on the back...."
He took off his hat, turned it around, and there embroiderd, was, 'Stormy Kromer'.
I was uplifted. He was slightly impressed. Michele was amused.
"They have a very entertaining website," I explained. "Stormy Kromers are very popular in the UP and in Wisconsin. I think they are made somewhere up there."
He gave us a pleasant smile and went on his way, promising to visit the website..
That little episode gave me a charge of cheer. Not sure why, but it did.

This reminds me of something... what is it...
Oh right! Those people who call themselves Trekkers, who are able to remember useless data from Star Trek, and pat themselves on their back whenever an opportunity arises for them to challenge their knowledge.
But your story is NOTHING like that...
Tiff, are you left handed? Your compliments certainly are.
I am not a Trekker. One of my brothers-in-law described his trivia knowledge in a manner I can understand. He said, "My brain is a sewer of unusual information."
He didn't say useless, he said 'unusual'.
Do you, for example, know how to square-up a rectangular frame, regardless of its size? I do...and I bet you are going to bust my chops for challenging you.
How funny!! I've never heard of Stormy Kromers until this hunting season when Russ and his hunting partners had their yearly party before the season opened. They have a dinner, by invitation only, for about 60 men out at deer camp. Every year the owners (Russ etc.) have a theme and dress accordingly. This year was the 25th anniversary of the ownership of the land so they came up with the idea of dressing like the old hunters did in the day. Enter the Stormy Kromer hats AND vests. They did look dapper in their white shirts, red plaid wool vests with matching caps. We have pictures to prove it!!
Another little tid-bit...when ordering the hats/vests the operator was asking who was going to wear all this. The story of the dinner and its yearly changing theme was told. She asked that a letter be written and sent to the company along with pictures. They would love to use it for advertising! I'll let you know if and when Russ gets around to writing the letter.
