The dogs and I checked out part of our little woods the other day. Despite recent frosts, the mosquitoes (tiny, little, vicious darlings) welcomed me to their dining area. I swatted and persevered long enough for the dogs to update themselves on the brushpiles.

If you look really close, especially in the foreground shadow, you'll pick out a deer path.
Buzz and Jackie pulled a 'possum out of these brush piles last fall. I was able to intervene before it was harmed.

'Okay, you called my name. What do you want? I've got things to do here.'

There are two dogs in this picture. You can see Jackie's tail-light just in front of Buzz's forehead.

This breed is part monkey. They walk up branches without even looking where to place their feet. It's like they have sensors on their paws.

Happy Jackie.

Happy Buzz.

They dug and dug and dug down through the snow and mud here last winter, and got down far enough to have Buzz's cheek nicked by an irate woodchuck. I did some frantic, panicked grappling and got both dogs under control, and out from underground...not how I prefer to use my adrenaline.
