O is for Otter...

Otter - first wash.JPG

This is where I stopped when I started a very wet wash on the Otter, for the letter O.  And since Don has an entry up with me painting, I'm coming up to speed with how far I am.  Usually, I start with the eyes, but was trying something different.  I realized as I worked on this painting, that I just don't paint like the artist I was studying.  And, That is Fine.

I've darkened the fur, started the eyes, washed the tail.  I am establishing the highlighted areas, and the areas that are dark or in shadow.

I have a very good base, but I don't like the sway to the Otter's back.  I will work on his back, his eyes will be darker and brighter, and fur will be detailed.  And, this type of otter will have claws.  There is a variety that does not have claws.  Not finished yet, so the next entry will show the finished Otter.  (The near-finished version looks really cute!)
